The Vail Valley is central to
Colorado’s best rivers
and best scenery. With both the family friendly Colorado River and the rambunctious rapids of the
Eagle River nearby, the
Vail/ Avon/ Beaver Creek area offers some of the best rafting available anywhere.
THE EAGLE RIVER
Get ready to rumble! The Eagle River is
a free flowing river
with roaring rapids in a spectacular mountain valley setting. Whitewater rafting on the Eagle is wet
and wild, with periods
of vigorous paddling required. Safety is our first priority, with participants wearing a fitted US
Coast Guard approved life
jacket and a wetsuit. A thorough safety briefing covering whitewater procedures is given prior to each
trip. This trip is
not recommended for children. For most of the season, the rapids are Class III and III+. At high water
in early June, several
rapids can reach Class IV. Eagle River rafting is available in late May, June, and early July. Our trips meet in Wolcott at 9:00am and 1:00pm. Please
arrive in Wolcott a minimum 20 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. The cost is $44. per person, including the
wetsuits and splash jackets.
Under the wetsuit, we recommend that you wear a swimsuit. Remember to have a warm, dry set of clothing
in the car to change
into after the trip. Visit our Eagle River page for info and directions or call 800-826-1081.
COLORADO RIVER
The Colorado River Valley is the next
valley to the north of
the Vail Valley. Our trips meet at our headquarters in Radium, about 1 hour to drive from Vail.
The
mighty Colorado is a great
family float with deep canyons, mountain vistas and easy rapids. Even in light rapids, we pay
close
attention to safety. Our
guests are required to wear a fitted life jacket and a safety briefing is given prior to each
trip.
Two person inflatable
kayaks, known as duckies, are available to satisfy the more active and adventurous members of your
party. The rapids are Class
II and II+ and water conditions are excellent all summer. Half days are on the water for two hours
and
departures are at 900AM,
100PM, and 400PM. We
recommend
that you wear a swimsuit
or shorts. Appropriate footwear (water shoes or sports sandals) is required. Snacks and beverages
are
permitted. Click on
our Colorado River page for more information and directions to Radium.
